Fever Narrative Analysis - Inspiration

Image
Fever Analysis Fever is a short film which shows a day in the lives of four teenagers. This day in their lives is shown to be a normal day until a sudden ‘fever’ takes over causing them to act spontaneously. The ‘fever’ acts differently on each of the teens, some act in confidence others act in nervousness and this allows the audience to empathise and sympathise with the characters. Fever begins by showing the characters getting ready for the day/night ahead, this introduction is one that the audience can relate to as everybody has to get ready. This makes the characters in the film more organic and relatable. Throughout this beginning the film cuts between shots of the teens at a fast pace, these cuts show that the narrative is not focu sing on any one specific character. The characters all have equal screen time which paints them as all equal even though they are different in many ways such as race, religion, social status and social class. Each character is from a d...

EVOLUTION OF IDEAS

Before we came to a final idea, we went through some other options we were considering. At first, we wanted to make something darker to what we did last year. With a darker atmosphere, we could create a better mise en scene which would generate a much more interesting image. Creating a darker atmosphere would give us more experience in filmmaking as we would tackle different and new ideas in all areas of production. The character was going to use sign language to communicate and the story was centred around his school life. We went through many different interpretations of this idea, such as a love story and comedy but we ended up going with a thriller. The thriller version of the film about a mute character was the most exciting for us as it had a dark premise that was very different to wh...

Larry Analysis Film Inspiration

Image
Larry is a 5 minute short horror film about a parking lot attendant on his night shift, due to his boredom he looks in the lost and found and finds an iPad with a mysterious Ebook on it. Larry is unlike many short films as it takes place in one specific place, has almost no dialogue and has a small cast, this is very effective as it creates a very intimate experience with the audience. Larry opens with a long shot of a car park at night, there is only one car with a lamp post highlighting the car. In the foreground of the shot there are window dividers, these seem to represent prison bars as if the audience is trapped in a claustrophobic area looking out at their one form of escape, the car. An unknown character's arm appears in front of the camera confirming that this is a POV shot. The watch displays 3:01, this is very late in the night and a common convention to making the audience feel more vulnerable as the quiet night creates a sense of dread. As the arm comes int...
