Larry Analysis Film Inspiration

Larry is a 5 minute short horror film about a parking lot attendant on his night shift, due to his boredom he looks in the lost and found and finds an iPad with a mysterious Ebook on it.
Larry is unlike many short films as it takes place in one specific place, has almost no dialogue and has a small cast, this is very effective as it creates a very intimate experience with the audience. Larry opens with a long shot of a car park at night, there is only one car with a lamp post highlighting the car.In the foreground of the shot there are window dividers, these seem to represent prison bars as if the audience is trapped in a claustrophobic area looking out at their one form of escape, the car.
An unknown character's arm appears in front of the camera confirming that this is a POV shot. The watch displays 3:01, this is very late in the night and a common convention to making the audience feel more vulnerable as the quiet night creates a sense of dread.
As the arm comes into frame, there is a subtle bass like noise which alerts the audience to the time of night. It creates an enigma code for the audience as they ask "why did that noise play?","is something frightening going to happen?" The next shot is of the main character sitting inside the building the POV shot was in, he looks visibly depressed and this sense of depression can be seen in the colour scheme of the shot as many shades of blue are present.
The film shows the boredom that the main character is feeling by dragging out certain shots and also using ambient cricket noises in order to create a feeling of loneliness. As the main character spins around in his chair, he accidently kicks something. It turns out to be the lost and found box, this box has a visible opening and looking into it shows darkness, this could be foreshadowing for something dark coming. The next shot is from inside the box looking out at the main character, this could be symbolic of something that is alive living within the box.The protagonist takes out an iPad from the box and turns it on which reveals an eBook called "The Misunderstood Monster" The cover of the book features a hideous monster in a contorted pose. This doesn't seem to phase the protagonist which is strange, it could be his sleep deprivation or utter boredom blinding him from the horrific imagery. The protagonist swipes to the next page in which the main character of the book is given a name, Larry. Having the monster being named something as pathetically normal as Larry creates the idea that the monster shouldn't be taken seriously. This contrast with Larry is confusing to the audience but entertaining to the protagonist. The protagonist greets Larry, this shows his desperation for contact with another being as he is obviously extremely lonely.

The protagonist starts to read through the book, this creates a frame narrative as the audience are being told a story within a story. In the book it states that Larry is lonely because of the way he looks, this shows a clear connection between Larry and the protagonist as they both share the same emotion. We can see that the protagonist is empathising with Larry through his facial expressions.
A new page is shown in which Larry appears to be looking over his shoulder directly at the main protagonist. The page states that Larry just wants a friend, this clearly upsets the protagonist and eery music begins to play. At this point, Larry's creepiness becomes apparent to the protagonist. The pacing of each cut in the scene becomes quicker, this is to build tension for the audience. Once the music builds to its peak the film quickly cuts to the lights in the protagonist's hut flickering and scaring him. This should affect the audience too as they are in the same position as the main character as they do not understand Larry. The lights flickering could represent an entity messing with the electrics or the main character's mind is hallucinating due to his fatigue.
