Dunkirk Poster Inspiration
This is the poster for Dunkirk, this film is about the evacuation of British soldiers from the battle of Dunkirk during the second world war. The first thing we can see about this poster is the colour pallette and how it consists of blue hues. There is almost no other colour than blue in this poster, this shows the bleak atmosphere of this battle and represents the how the world felt during this period. Using the Z-Rule we can see the previous films the critically acclaimed director has made, this lets the viewer know what to expect quality wise with the film. The mid section of the poster features a lone soldier overlooking the chaos, this image seems almost peaceful due to it's melancholic colour scheme and lack of audio. The lone soldier is standing in front of the sea which could be symbolism for the journey into the unknown as the ocean is the most unexplored part of the world. The soldier by himself could represent the audience as they are about to watch this realistic depiction of war. The poster fades in from a black gradient from the bottom and fades out to black on the top, this could be symbolic of the darkness creeping in slowly, letting the viewer know that something is coming. The title of the poster, DUNKIRK shows various shades of blue which represents the tone of the film. Under the title the tagline is shown "THE EVENT THAT SHAPED OUR WORLD" this is direct address to the audience which makes it more impactful. Overall I think this poster presents great symbolism and beautiful imagery with minimalistic graphic detail. For the poster we are creating for River we would like to apply this level of mystery and intrigue.
